My Favorite Holidays
Posted on: December 29, 2017 • Filed Under: Babbles, Blog, General, Life

It appears to me that I’ve never really written about what my favorite holidays have been, and why they’re my favorite holidays. I guess it’s because the thought of writing about my favorite holidays has never really crossed my mind, until just a few moments ago. While I understand that most of these holidays are celebrated throughout the United States and most likely elsewhere, just called different, or some aren’t even celebrated at all, I am still going to explain why some of these holidays are my favorites.

As the older I get and time progresses, I tend to notice certain things about myself a little bit more than I did five minutes ago or even a day ago or so. Even though this month of December is just a few days away from being over and a new year starting around the corner along with another birthday taking place, I’ve actually had the chance to reflect on certain holidays that we celebrate and realized just how much some of these holidays I have favored or come to love more so than the next holiday. It’s truly amazing what your mind is capable of doing when you least expect it.

When it comes to certain holidays that are my favorite holidays of the year – it’s gotta be Halloween, Thanksgiving, and of course Christmas. For some reason, these three holidays are my favorites and they all happen to be during the winter season.

Why Halloween is my favorite holiday:
Halloween, without a doubt, has got to be my most favorite and most loved holidays/traditions of all time. While I understand that trick-or-treating is a thing of the past and is being phased out due to safety reasons for children, I still love the fact that some parents are keeping the tradition alive by actually allowing their children to actually do the whole trick or treating thing without going to a Church and doing it there. When I was a kid to my teens, I used to all the time go Trick Or Treating, it probably wasn’t until later on in life that I started staying at home after having watched the first ever The Simpsons Halloween Special. After having watched that and some other shows on Halloween, I began to get excited whenever it was the month of October and looked forward towards Halloween night when The Simpsons Halloween Special would come on.

Why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday:
Let’s face it, who doesn’t love a good Thanksgiving dinner with turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, and all the good stuff that comes with the dinner? I mean sure, it sucks having to wait around all day for the meal to be prepared and what not, but it’s definitely well worth the wait as the food is always amazing and is my most favorite meals of all meals. Sure, my favorite meal only happens but once a year as do a lot of things, but it’s something to look forward to and actually be grateful for it. The only thing I dislike is the football seasons that takes place during this time of year. Even though the dinner is mostly the reason why Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, there’s another reason, family. Every year (just about), my small family would get together and have be creative by playing some games with each other like connect four or something similar, or just have fun talking to each other about life and what’s been going on in life. Even though this is only a few aspects of why this is my favorite holiday, I’m sure there’s more to it and I just can’t think of anymore reasons.

Why Christmas is my favorite holiday:
Christmas has always been one of my favorite holidays, especially as a child growing up. Ever since I can remember as a kid growing up on Christmas, I would always be the first one to be awake on Christmas morning and would just sit in the comfortable couch and just gawk at how beautiful the Christmas tree is, and also stare at the presents until everyone finally decides to wake up. My families tradition at that time was once everyone was awake, the adults would have coffee and donuts, while the children would have hot chocolate or chocolate milk and donuts while waiting for my grandmother and others to arrive. Once they have arrived, it was time to open presents. I have so many wonderful memories of my grandmother being there and looking beautiful as ever. Now, I have heard of other families actually opening their presents on Christmas Eve, my family allowed my siblings and me to open one present on Christmas Eve and then the rest on Christmas day. While things have changed and I am now older and with a new family, the tradition of actually opening one present on Christmas Eve has changed. This family along with myself opens our presents on Christmas Eve and then on Christmas day/morning head on over to my boyfriend’s mothers place and open more there. It’s funny how things change over time and when you get older. Even though the reason isn’t all about presents, it’s about actually spending quality time with family who cares for you and what not.

These are my favorite holidays and why they’re my favorite holidays. I hope you enjoyed reading the reasons why!

My favorite holiday has to be Christmas….for pretty much the same reasons as Jamie: having your family unite and celebrating the day all together, opening gifts, all the yummy things you get to eat for Christmas (only then)….I love it.
Happy 2018 to all visitors!! <3

I used to love trick or treating! I only stopped when my mom made me. XD We used to go to my grandma’s to do it (since our street was busy and stuff). I still dress up though!

I love turkey dinners. My mom makes the best stuffing!

And of course I love Christmas! I always get so spoiled! We open family gifts on Christmas Eve and on Christmas the gifts from Santa. XD

Hmm, I think we all loved trick or treating until we were either forced to quit due to age or what have you. There’s been Halloweens where I’ve celebrated with my mom and sister and times were I’ve celebrated with my dad and my friends. I guess it depended on what weekend it fell on.

Hmm, interesting. I know that most families opens their Christmas gifts on the day of and some the night of or the night before or the eve before Christmas. My family always opened our gifts in the mornings because they knew us kids couldn’t wait all day long to open our gifts. As we got older, the time to open gifts became later on in the day, now that I am out on my own and have my boyfriend and his family, we tend to open our gifts Christmas Eve (which I’m still getting used too as it’s a bit new to me still, even after 4 years), and then on Christmas day we go to his mom’s house and open more gifts.

I like Christmas because it’s the only day where it’s more “a time period” than a specific day. I like how as soon as Thanksgiving is over, I’m like, “OK, it’s Christmas.”” The decorations. The Christmas music. Christmas is everywhere in the months of November/December. I don’t get that feeling with any other holiday.

And turkey is delicious any time of the year. Mmm. 🙂

I feel that as soon as Halloween is over stores skips Thanksgiving and goes right to Christmas. It feels to me that Thanksgiving is being over looked by Christmas. I personally feel that Thanksgiving and Halloween are my two favorite holidays, and of course, Christmas. I’m just not particularly fond of the music anymore.

We don’t celebrate Halloween nor Thanksgiving here, but sometimes I go to Halloween parties that we throw just because and they are fun! I think my favourite holidays are Yule/Christmas and New Year’s. 🙂 🙂 🙂

That’s weird, I know some countries celebrate other holidays that my country doesn’t celebrate, I just don’t know which ones they are. At least you guys celebrate Halloween parties, so that’s a plus :).

I have never really thought about which holidays are my favorite – of course, that may be because they have always been a day growing up where I had to keep my younger brothers separated, as well as keep them from irritating my Mom on one of her few days off work. As the years passed, I began to lose interest in them. Hopefully, if I someday have children of my own, I’ll be able to come up with traditions that ensure that they have a favorite holiday, or at least a favorite holiday memory.

I’m sorry that your holidays were spent trying to keep your siblings separated and what not. I seriously think that the older we get, the more we tend to lose interest in some holidays. I know that the older I’ve gotten, I don’t really feel the Christmas spirit as much as I used to when I was younger. If that makes any sense? Don’t get me wrong, Christmas is still my favorite holiday despite not having the spirit as much.

I really don’t think nor have I heard of birthdays being holiday related, but whatever floats your boat.

They’re nice holidays but they’re not much fun anymore to me
Like what you said as people grow older they lose interest
it was more interesting when things were gifted to me, especially during xmas/birthdays.

Pim, I edited your comment just a bit because it was making you sound a bit conceited. But anyways, yeah as time progresses so do we, and that means more financial troubles and it’s hard to keep up with all the bills and such when you have so many birthdays and holidays around the corner like they’ve been.

Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas… They all sound like such fun holidays! Where I live, we only celebrate Christmas out of these three, which also happens to be my most favorite holiday season of all. 🙂 The reason is essentially the same as yours: family. It’s the only time of the year when I get to spend a whole day with my whole family, not only my parents and my brother, but also my cousins, aunts, and uncles, and distant relatives, and even some of our neighbors, too. I like the way you described how you celebrate Christmas with your family. I’m imagining it like what I see in American movies. 😊

Now it’s already 2018, and time flies by so fast… I hope you have a great year ahead of you, Jamie!
